Area Accidents Claim Two Lives

Two separate fatal incidents in the Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troop F district claimed the lives of an Ada man and a Pauls Valley woman over the past week, according to preliminary reports from trooopers.

The first crash occurred the morning of April 16 in Pontotoc County at the intersection of State Highway 1 and County Road 1570.

According to investigators, a vehicle driven by 81-year-old James J. Jackson of Ada was traveling eastbound on County Road 1570 and failed to yield at a stop sign. Jackson attempted to cross S.H. 1 and was struck by a southbound vehicle, driven by 57-year-old Luis Cabrera, also of Ada.

Jackson, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported from the scene but later died from his injuries. Cabrera was not injured, and two passengers in his vehicle were also reported unhurt.

Trooper Tim Brinson of Troop F investigated. Officials noted that all information remains preliminary and subject to change.

A second fatal incident occurred earlier on April 10 in Garvin County involving a pedestrian and a train.

According to the patrol, 42-year-old Felicia Lynn Bennett of Pauls Valley was walking southbound on a railroad bridge along County Road 1610 when she was struck by an Amtrak train. Investigators said Bennett attempted to move out of the train’s path but was unable to do so.

Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene. The train operator, identified as K.W. Lloyd, was not injured. No passengers aboard the train were reported injured.

Trooper Isidro Barrios of Troop F is handling that inves-Albert tigation.
