Murray County Free Fair To Celebrate America
This year’s Murray County Free Fair will pay a special tribute to America’s 250th birthday.

Event Kicks Off 3-Day Run September 2

This year’s annual 102nd county fair will pay tribute to America and its 250th birthday when it opens its doors for viewing on September 2-4 at the Murray County Expo Center.

The fair will make a major change in dates and operations starting with entries. All indoor entries will be taken on Monday, August 31st from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. only.

Tuesday, September 1 will be the day set aside for judging, placing ribbons and preparing exhibits for the indoor entries and this is the day when rabbits and all poultry entries will be entered starting at 9:00 a.m.and running until noon. Judging of these items will begin at 1:00 p.m. The building will not be open to the public on this date while preparations are being made.

The doors to the public will open at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and run until dismissal of entries at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 4.

Special events and additions for this year’s fair will include a special photography division titled, “America 250.” Classes for entries include Small Town America, American Landscapes, Veterans ofAmerica and Symbols of America. An overall Grand Champion from all of these classes will receive a $25 cash prize and the Reserve Champion will receive $15 cash prize.

In the culinary division, a special patriotic decorated cake, cupcake and cookie category has been added for both youth and adult.

Overall Grand Champion from these three classes will receive $25 cash prize with Reserve Champion receiving $15.

A special “Apple Pie” baking contest will be held with the Overall Grand Champion receiving $40 and Reserve Champion receiving $30.

A special patriotic quilt block competition titled “250 Years Stitched Together” will be held. This competition includes a kit with assigned fabrics which can be combined to make the participants own personal design. Kits will be available for $5 at the OSU Extension Office.

Special activities for the fair will include a cupcake war event, women’s skillet throw contest, Lego contest and a very special “Tribute to our Heroes Night” scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3 where all veterans as well as those currently serving will be honored with a meal and special recognition.

This year’s fair will not be hosting a horse show or cornhole tournament.

Calling All Veterans And Active Duty

The 2026 Murray County Fair would like to honor all veterans and active duty service members to a special evening “Tribute to Our Heroes Night” scheduled for Thursday, Sept.3 at 6:00 p.m.

Stillwater Milling Company of Davis will sponsor a free hamburger/hot dog meal and a special program will recognize each individual in attendance.

In order to prepare a printed program, veterans and active duty members are asked to contact the OSU Extension Office if you plan to attend. The phone number to call is 622-3016. This would be helpful for planning purposes but if you miss having your name added to the program please don’t let that keep you from coming.

This special event is open to all branches.

The community is invited to come to support, honor and thank those who have or are serving and are asked to please help spread the word of invitation.
