Sulphur Pounds Out 26 Hits In Two Games, Scoring 15 Runs In Shutout Victory
The Sulphur Lady Bulldogs bounced back from a tough 10-7 loss to Roff on Monday by exploding for a 15-0 victory over Ardmore Tuesday.
Sulphur collected 11 hits against Roff despite coming up on the short end of the score, then followed with another 15-hit offensive performance against Ardmore. Jordyn Johnston led the Bulldogs at the plate in both games, including a three-RBI performance in Tuesday’s victory.
Against Roff, Sulphur jumped to a 5-1 lead through the second inning but could not hold on as the Lady Tigers rallied for the win.
Kensley Rochelle opened the scoring in the top of the first with a double down the right-field line, followed by a Cheyenne Ruth single that helped push two runs across.
The Bulldogs added three more runs in the second inning on RBI singles by Zoli May and Johnston.
Roff battled back, however, scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-5 lead. Sulphur answered in the fifth when Rochelle grounded out, allowing the Bulldogs to tie the game at 6-6.
The Lady Tigers then broke the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs on an error and RBI singles by Kyndall Tidwell and Lillee Lancaster.
Sulphur added a run in the seventh but could not complete the comeback.
The Bulldogs outhit Roff, 11-7, with Rochelle and Johnston each driving in two runs. May, Ruth and Kabree Little collected multiple hits, while May also stole two bases.
Fastpitch
Johnston led Sulphur with three hits. Lancaster and Tidwell had two hits apiece for Roff, with Lancaster driving in three runs.
Ruth started in the circle for Sulphur and allowed four hits and six runs, only two of which were earned, in 3 1/3 innings. She struck out none and walked five.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs quickly put the game behind them and came out firing against Ardmore on Tuesday.
Sulphur scored in each of the first three innings, including a nine-run explosion in the third that put the game out of reach.
Addy Johnson singled in the first inning to score a run, while an Ardmore error and a walk to Hattie Stiffler also contributed to the early scoring.
The Bulldogs added three runs in the second on an RBI single by Destrie Muck and a two-run groundout by Rochelle.
Then came the big third inning. Johnston delivered a three-run double, while Rochelle and Ruth each doubled in a run. Little added a two-run single, and two additional runs scored on an Ardmore error as Sulphur erupted for nine runs.
Rochelle dominated in the circle, allowing just two hits and no runs over four innings while striking out nine and walking one to earn the victory.
Johnston went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, while Johnson and Johnston each collected two hits. Stiffler drew two walks as the Bulldogs also showed patience at the plate, earning five walks.
Braelynn Fahlbusch and Kenzley Gonzalez each had one hit for Ardmore.
The two-game stretch gave Sulphur a strong offensive showing, with the Bulldogs pounding out 26 hits while scoring 22 runs.
Lady Bulldogs Fall to Plainview
The Sulphur Lady Bulldogs ran into a tough Plainview team Monday, falling 16-0 in three innings.
Plainview wasted little time taking control, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning after a Sulphur error and a walk to Bailey Fincher helped set the table.
The Lady Indians then broke the game open in the second inning, scoring seven runs on four hits. Plainview took advantage of another Sulphur error, while Kamrey Martin and Maci Caldwell delivered run-scoring singles during the big inning.
Plainview added six more runs in the third inning on five hits and another Sulphur error to complete the scoring.
Cheyenne Ruth started in the circle for Sulphur, working three innings. She allowed 10 hits and 16 runs, nine of them earned, while striking out one and walking five.
The Lady Bulldogs (8-7) managed just one hit in the game, with Kabree Little going 1-for-1 at the plate. Zoli May contributed by stealing two bases.
Plainview (16-3) collected 10 hits and was led offensively by Caldwell, who drove in three runs while going 1-for-2. Ally Brown, Chloe Phelps and Martin each recorded two hits.
The Lady Indians also displayed patience at the plate, drawing five walks, and stole four bases without committing an error in the field.
Landree Upshaw started in the circle for Plainview and allowed just one hit and no runs in two innings, striking out three and walking two.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to bounce back from Monday’s loss as the season continues.
