Kayla Wood, Tishomingo, won the recent Chickasaw Nation special election to fill an unexpired term, according to Jerri Martin, election secretary.
Wood won the four-person race with a total of 788 votes and will now be sworn in as legislator in the Tishomingo District Seat 1.
Wood avoided a runoff by winning with a total of over 55% of the vote. Her nearest challenger was Te’Ata Loper, Milburn, who collected 373 votes, or 26.05% of the total vote cast. Lisa Hudson, Davis, garnered 150 votes and ran third in the race with 10.47% of the vote, and Jeff Jennings, also of Davis, was fourth with 121 votes or 8.45% of the vote.
Wood was sworn into office on Monday, Aug. 31.
The vacancy was created when former incumbent legislator Scott Wood was sworn in as Chickasaw Nation Lt. Governor.
The unexpired term ends Oct. 1, 2027.
