Team Preps For Final Competition This Saturday At SNU
The Sulphur High School cheerleaders are off to state competition next Saturday at Southern Nazarene University in Bethany after winning fourth place in the regional qualifier at Westmore High School on September 19.
Sulphur scored 244.2 points in their performance at Westmore, and now will be going for the gold next weekend in Oklahoma City. The team will perform at 10:30 a.m.
Bethany won the Westmore qualifier with 258 points, followed by Heritage Hall 253.4, and Washington 246.0. Other qualifiers included Mt. St. Mary 242.6, Kingfisher 230.8, Pauls Valley 225.2, Cache 232.2, and Marlow 208.4.
“These girls have worked incredibly hard on this routine since June and have proved themselves to be state worthy,” said Summer Priest, a cheerleading sponsor. “We have worked well together as a team and have the talent to be a top contender at state. This team makes me proud - they have fought hard and deserve their moment to shine.”
Said coach LeAnn Loftis, “Countless hours of hard work, dedication, sweat, and determination have led to this moment. Every practice, every challenge, and every sacrifice was worth it. Watching all that hard work pay off and earning a spot at the State Championship Competition is something to be incredibly proud of. These girls have given it their all and it shows. I couldn’t be more proud to be their coach.”
Team member and senior Peyden Young said, “I’m super proud of all the girls and so thankful for the hard work they’ve put in these past four months and I think we have a good shot at making a name for ourselves and showing people how much time and work we put into not only our routine, but also for game days at the same time. I love this team with my whole heart and I know we’re going to go and do great things this year.”
