The Murray County Health Department, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, will offer free flu shots to individuals ages 9 and older during a drive-thru vaccination event Friday, Nov. 6.
The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Murray County Expo Center, located at 3490 Highway 7 in Sulphur. No appointment is necessary.
Those planning to receive a vaccination are encouraged to wear short-sleeved shirts and leave pets at home. High-dose flu vaccine will not be available at the event.
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious virus that affects the nose, throat, airways and lungs. Flu activity in the United States typically occurs from early October through mid-May.
Health officials recommend getting a flu vaccine each year as one of the best ways to help prevent influenza and reduce the risk of serious illness.
Those at greatest risk of developing serious flu-related complications include adults 65 and older, pregnant women, children younger than 2 and people with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes or heart disease.
Weekly updates on influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) activity across Oklahoma are available through the Oklahoma State Department of Health's Viral View webpage.
