Mary Jane (Castleberry) Maddox
Mary Jane (Castleberry) Maddox
Mary Jane grew up on a dairy farm where she learned things such as canning, field work and milking cows. She graduated from Hickory High School She married the love of her life, James “Don” Maddox on November 2, 1957 in Gainesville, Texas. The couple had three children; Donald, Debra and Terri. The young family moved around the country, as Don was serving our country in the Air Force. They moved to Dallas, Texas in 1963 where the lived until moving home to Oklahoma in 2003.
Mary also had an exciting career as an avionics engineer for Texas Instruments for over 30 years before she retired. You wouldn’t believe this sweet lady built missile bombs and even invented the first GPS for space. After retiring and moving home, she followed her other love. People, service and being in the kitchen! She worked as the cook for Oak Grove Senior Center until she could no longer work. Plenty would agree that she was one of the best cooks around! So many words come to mind when describing Mary Jane: hardworking, resilient, compassionate, caring. She was always cooking for someone, lending a helping hand, making donations and helping in her communities whenever possible.
She was a very busy woman but always made time for her most precious gift; her family. Her grandkids were her absolute pride and joy and she took great pride in having a hand in raising each one of them.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Maddox; one daughter, Debbie Maddox; and two siblings Ruth and Sonny.
