LaVernne E. Nichols
LaVernne E. Nichols
LaVernne dedicated EVERY MOMENT OF her entire life to the encouragement and support of her family and friends. From a very young age, she learned the value of hard work and was never too tired or busy to take care of those who needed it. She was a constant presence in her community of Sulphur, providing meals to those in need, being home room mom every year, working at the Freeman Sale Barn, working Murray County election locations, being a dedicated member of the OHCE for 75 years, and every event her beloved church would hold. She hosted several foreign exchange students, operated a fabric & gift shop out of their home, and at one time was gathering more than 3000 eggs a day from their chicken barn, and picking vegetables from the best garden in town. She cooked from scratch every day, learning on a wood-burning stove as a young girl. She could sew anything, winning the local dress review most years, and making crafts for endless amounts of craft shows as well as many booths in antique malls through the years. She made a home that was full of family and friends constantly hosting most large family events. She was an accomplished square dancer and a Favorite Camp host to many.
Most importantly, LaVernne loved the Lord with all her heart and read her bible every day, completing it yearly many times over. She taught her family unconditional love, except if you were playing her in cards, in which she delighted in trouncing all competitors with squeals of glee through her 50+ years of card playing. She was a dedicated mother to Debbie & Laurie and mother & grandmother to Lidia. Her great-grandsons were the apple of her eye, teaching them constantly about the way the world used to be with amazing stories. She was a good and faithful servant to Jesus her entire life, showing us all how to run the race with grace to the very end. She never complained, she was never bitter, she never missed a chance to make someone feel special. There will never be another like her.
Survivors include one daughter, Laurie Nichols and husband James, of Sulphur; one granddaughter, Lidia Cox and husband Ben, of Norman; two great-grandsons, Rowan Williams and Wyatt Cox; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, LaVernne was also preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Nichols Morales; and her seven siblings, Warren Chilcoat, Mae Isbell, Eva Scott, Velma Boyles, Orena Chilcoat, Jimmy Chilcoat and Don Chilcoat.
