Royal Barton Benn

Royal Barton Benn was born September 3, 1943, in Murray County to Roy Chester and Esther Ruth (Barton) Benn. He died Friday, June 6, 2025, in Davis, at the age of 81.

Royal, better known by friends as “Booger Red” or “Judge” was a lifelong resident of Murray County, graduating from Davis High School. In February 1966, he married the former Ms. Janet Watson. Two children were born to this union, Kristie and Bart.

Royal began his career in construction with Byron Watson, doing dirt work. As time went on, he ventured into business for himself, owning Royal Construction. For many years he did cement construction and later mostly carpentry.

Royal was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially in Colorado. Royal was an avid fan of OU Football.

Royal was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and John Benn; and three sisters, Pamelia Moore Barnes, Janet Johnson, and Dorsa Stidham.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristie McPherson and husband Jim of The Woodlands, TX; son, Bart McClellan and wife Christina of Little River Academy, TX; two sisters, Hampie Roberts and husband Owen of Oklahoma City, and Debbie Hall and husband Jerry of Sulphur; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Per Royal’s request, the family will honor his life with a private memorial gathering.
