Karen “Joyce” Crawford

Karen “Joyce” Crawford

Karen “Joyce” Crawford of Newalla, Oklahoma, passed away on July 3, 2025 at Shawnee surrounded by her loved ones. She was 72 years old.

Joyce met Garry while working at an immunization clinic. They were married on July 2, 1993 in San Antonio at Ft. Sam Houston Chapel.

Joyce was a beautiful vibrant woman who had varied interests in her lifetime. She became an avid bird watcher and especially loved hummingbirds. She thought to tempt the hummingbirds to her yard and was very proud of the dinner plate sized hibiscus flowers she and Garry cultivated over the years. Joyce took an interest in the weather and when it came to her family and friends’ safety, she would be the first to notify if bad weather was moving in. Joyce loved her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them playing board games or card games. After her retirement, Joyce took a keen interest in genealogy that she passed onto her family and friends by way of creating books about their families. Originally inspired by her second great grandmother’s peculiar name, Cindrilla, Joyce enjoyed giving other people those same types of insights into their family’s past. She would invest hours and hours of extensive research into these books so that it became a labor of love.

Those remaining to cherish Joyce’s memory are her husband, Garry Crawford; sons, Michael, Scott, and Jason and wife Megan Crawford; daughter, Terri Schell; grandchildren, Josephine, Jayden and Paxton Crawford and Dalton and Devon Schell; brother, Dewayne Price and wife Glenda; and sister, Marcella Smith. She is also survived by a multitude of great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and many cousins and friends.

Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, Willis and Marie Grubaugh Price.

A celebration of life will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee.
