Johnny Michael “Mike” McCracken
Johnny Michael “Mike” McCracken

Mike grew up in Johnston and Murray Counties, settling in Sulphur as a teenager. He lived there through his retirement from the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. In 2022, he moved to Iowa where his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson live.
Mike was an avid fan of westerns, old cars, classic rock and roll, country music, and watching baseball, basketball, and football. He followed the careers of any OU Sooner athletes who went pro, particularly if they were on one of his favorite teams: Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Philadelphia Eagles.
He liked good food, good people, and music. Some of his favorite times were traveling with his friends in the Country High Band and running their sound mixer as they played shows around Oklahoma and Texas. He loved attending live music from classical guitar or jazz to swinging bass or twang of a steel guitar.
Survivors include his daughter, Edie McCracken of Hays, KS; son, Wallace McCracken and wife Jennie of Newton, IA; one grandson, Roderick “Rory” McCracken; sister-in-law Regeana McCracken and family; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Sulphur High School band via Misty at the administration office.
Arrangements were under the direction of Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory of Newton, IA.
