Richard Dow Chadwick
Richard Dow Chadwick
After graduating from Davis High School, Class of 1964, Richard attended OSU-Okmulgee, studying drafting and carpentry. His career in carpentry began in the Dallas area, where he worked for several years in the new housing construction. After returning to Davis, Richard formed his own construction company and built numerous homes in Murray County and the surrounding area. He was very well known for his excellent carpentry skills and his ability to build beautiful homes, which are still being enjoyed to this day.
In addition to carpentry, Richard worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural route carrier. What began as a part-time job in 1980, subbing for his father, led to a full-time position in 1996. Between Richard and J.C., a Chadwick faithfully delivered the mail to homes on Rural Route 1 for 40-plus years. Together, he and his father also raised pigs and cattle for many years, which he greatly enjoyed.
In 2017, due to Jane’s failing health, Richard retired to take care of her. On December 3, 1971, when he took a vow to love, honor, and cherish Jane until death, he meant it. Richard saw to her every need and cared for her until her last breath on earth.
Richard was quiet by nature, never raising his voice. He had a servant’s heart, always caring for others. He was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Richard was very proud of his two daughters, and especially his grandchildren. His love for his family was truly unwavering. In younger years, he loved to water ski and enjoyed spending time on the lake with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family, as well as traveling.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kelli Brassfield and husband, Alex of Hennepin and Jodi Coppenbarger and husband, Cade of Davis; five grandchildren, Morgan and Tyler Brooks, Gage and Paige Coppenbarger, and Audrey Brassfield; two sisters, Barbara Chadwick and Judy Wells and husband, Jerold; one brother, Don Chadwick and wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Beverly Kay; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by an infant son, Justin Dow Chadwick.
