Wayne attended Sulphur Public School through the 11th grade, after which he enlisted in the National Guard in 1962. He served in the National Guard for two years, then transferred over to the Army and served 6 years and 6 months. He received a Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He was a rifle sharp shooter, a M1 Rifle marksman and was an Army SP5-E5.
He spent most of his military time deployed to Bad Hersfeld, Germany. After leaving the military, he resided in Grapevine, TX. He went to work for Central Freight Line and was there for 30 years where he retired.
After retiring, he moved to Duncanville, Texas and worked several years for an Armored Truck Service. Around 2003, he moved back to Sulphur. He loved the time he spent in the military and talked about it often. He lived a very simple life. He was an avid reader, and enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends. He always had a joke to share and loved making others laugh. His motto was “not to make a fuss about anything.”
He was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Edy Pauline Elliott (Buchanan/Lowe), and brother, Lee Roy Elliott.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry Don Elliott, of Davis; nieces, Kristina MeShell Elliott (Johnson/ Reid) and John, of Davis, and Brenda Smith and husband, Brad of Purcell; his childhood friend, Jerry Montgomery and wife, Susan of Overbrook, and many nieces and nephews, family and friends. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
