Emagene Gibbs

Emagene (Cottrell) Gibbs was born August 30, 1929, west of Davis, to the late Oliver and Gertie (Jeter) Cottrell. She passed into eternal rest on Monday, October 27, 2025, in Pauls Valley, at the age of 96 years, 1 month and 27 days. Emagene and Chester Hugh Gibbs were united in marriage on July 3, 1948, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2004.

Emagene grew up in the Davis/Woodland area, graduating from Woodland High School in 1947.

Survivors include her son, Chester Gibbs, Jr. and wife Pam; two granddaughters; one grandson; daughter-in-law, Ronda Gibbs; and son-in-law, Mark Swartz; sister-in-law, Hariette Cottrell; two bonus grandchildren; four bonus great-grandchildren; as well as several niece and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Emagene was preceded in death by one son, Joe Wesley “Joey” Gibbs; her daughter, Judith Joann “JJ” Gibbs-Swartz; as well as her three brothers, Jimmy, Floyd, and Jerry Cottrell.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Davis, with Pastor Tony Randol officiating. Interment followed at the Green Hill Cemetery, in Davis.
