Patricia Ann “Pat” Woods
Pat was born April 27, 1936, in Lawton, to the late W. G. “Bill” and Almeda (James) Engle. She passed on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, in Ardmore, at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 29 days. Pat and Jerry Lawrence Woods were united in marriage on May 4, 1957, in Pauls Valley. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2022.
Pat grew up in Pauls Valley, graduating from Pauls Valley High School, Class of 1955. Once she and Jerry married, they made their home in numerous states as he traveled with United States Air Force. In the early 1970’s, the family returned to Oklahoma, residing in the Walker area, prior to settling in the Arbuckle Lake area in the late 70’s.
In 1972, Pat began working with the Chickasaw Nation as a Programs Administrator. Throughout her 38 years with the tribe, Pat worked tirelessly to advance the quality of life, as well as strengthen tribal culture among the members of the Chickasaw Nation. She was the first Community Health Representative of the Chickasaws, as well as elected the first female to chair the National Indians Counsel on Aging. As a very influential member of the tribe, Pat served as an Executive Liaison to Governor Anoatubby for many years. She received numerous awards and recognitions during her faithful service to the Chickasaw Nation, as well as being inducted into the Chickasaw Hall of Fame in 2024. Pat was very proud of her native heritage and shared that fact often.
Away from the tribe in her own private life, Pat enjoyed cooking, going to the lake and spending precious time with her beloved family.
Survivors include her two sons, Shan Woods and wife Carla, and Steven Woods and wife Paula; daughter, Amy Russell and husband Nathan; eight grandchildren, Christi Ellul and husband Anthony, Lacy Mann and husband John Michael, Jeremy Woods, Brad Woods and wife Ayushi, Angela Portwood and husband Hugh, Chad Woods and wife Holly, Tia Healey and husband Haden, and Nathan Russell; daughter-in-law, Tammy Woods; great-grandchildren, Mallorie and Zoie Lovett, Keeli and A.J. Ellul, Logan, Chelsy and Aspen Woods, Jake and Madelyn Mann, Townes and Hatton Healey, and Cooper and Emma Portwood; one great-great grandchild, Ronan Moore; as well as two brothers, Bob Engle and wife Kay, and David Engle and wife Joyce.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pat was preceded in death by one son, William David Woods; two sisters, Peggy Switzer and Joyce Walker; and two brothers, Donald and Kenneth Engle.
