Preston Alan Norton

PrestonAlan Norton was born on January 4, 1977 inAda, Oklahoma to Steve and Connie Norton. Wamp passed away on December 9, 2025 in Stratford, Oklahoma after a tragic accident where his partner Marie Womack also passed away. Within weeks, he became Wamp when Hoke, his grandfather, said he was like a “Wampus Cat.” Wamp and his partner Marie Womack passed away on December 9, 2025.

As a child, Wamp could most often be found right beside Pop (Hoke) or in the woods somewhere. Wamp definitely had a bit of wildness in him. (Pretty sure every Norton comes with at least a little bit of that). He loved being outside and especially loved hunting, fishing, and riding four wheelers. He also enjoyed riding horses, and he roped as a heeler for a time. Wamp attended school in Sulphur, and he worked on ranches when he was young. He helped his dad in remodeling and building projects at his carwashes, and he also helped build trailers for a while. Wamp met Shanon in 1997 when he was helping remodel the carwash in Wynnewood. They quickly fell in love and spent over twenty years together raising their family. Soon after they got married, Wamp purchased a fence company and spent many years building fences and later metal buildings. He was a talented welder and builder, and he was an excellent craftsman who was known to build things that last.

His greatest work though was as a father. He loved his children and grandchildren very much. He had Rachel in Hunter’s Pawnshop before she was a week old and was so proud to show her off to everyone. He enjoyed taking Rachel, Levi, and Luke camping and to the River. From very young ages, he brought them along, attaching them to him with stringers and dragging them down the Washita on noodling trips or bringing them along in the canoe for float trips. He took them to Deer camp and taught them to hunt and shoot. Every Spring, he took them mushroom hunting. He took them to work and taught them to build fences and buildings. He loved cooking for them. He was great at it and fed them wild game of all kinds. He also taught them to laugh and enjoy each moment. Wamp had a great sense of humor and loved playing jokes on people and having fun. He also really loved helping people and often went out of his way to do for others.

In recent years, Wamp met Marie and became a security guard for the Chickasaw Nation at the Artesian Hotel and Casino. He and Marie enjoyed spending time with friends and playing shuffleboard and pool. He was a great pool player when he was young and really enjoyed getting back to playing. He also loved his dogs and enjoyed training his Black Lab Timber and taking her duck hunting.

Wamp was preceded in death by his grandparents Fred and Audrey Norton and Preston (Hoke) and Evone Hughes. He is survived by his children Rachel Davis and husbandAustin, Levi Norton, Luke Norton, and their mother Shanon Norton, grandchildren Wyatt, Miles, and Owen Davis, his mother Connie Norton, his father Steve Norton, his siblings Robin Monetathchi and husband Dusk, brother Joe Norton and sister Deanna Norman, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Wamp will forever be loved and cherished, and the joy and laughter he brought will stay with us always.

Services were held on December 16th at Midway Hill Baptist Church with pastors Chopper McCartney and Dick Terry officiating. Care was entrusted to DeArman funeral home in Sulphur, Oklahoma.
