Shannon Marie Smith

Shannon Marie Smith

Shannon Marie Smith was born on March 13, 1970, in Purcell, and was raised by her loving parents, Constance Raye Smith and Sammy Nelson. She spent her childhood in southern Oklahoma, attending Pauls Valley schools before graduating from Pauls Valley High School with the Class of 1988.

Shannon had a deep love for country life from an early age. She enjoyed riding horses, barrel racing, and spending evenings two-stepping at the Arbuckle Ballroom. She was also a proud member of the Pauls Valley Rodeo Round-Up Club, where she enjoyed the friendships that came with it.

In August of 1999, Shannon met Lonny Britt Jr. One of Shannon’s greatest joys was supporting her children as they showed animals through 4-H, cheering them on every step of the way. Later in life, nothing brought her more happiness than spending time with her grandchildren.

Shannon found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved painting her nails, journaling and writing, crafting, and cooking for those she loved. Her homemade lasagna became a favorite family tradition.

On October 13, 2024, Shannon was baptized at Compassion Church in Sulphur, a milestone in her walk of faith that brought her great peace and strength.

Shannon shared a special bond with her devoted service dog, Remi Eugene Smith, who faithfully accompanied her through many chapters of her life. Their companionship was a source of comfort and unconditional love.

Above all, Shannon was a survivor. Through every challenge she faced, she carried herself with remarkable courage, determination, and hope. She inspired those around her by living each day with resilience and by holding tightly to the words that became her personal motto: “My story isn’t over.” Those words reflected the strength of her spirit and the unwavering faith that carried her through life’s hardships.

Shannon will be remembered for her loving heart, her fierce devotion to her family, her creative spirit, her warm smile, and the example of perseverance she left for everyone who knew her. Though she will be deeply missed, her story continues through the lives she touched, the memories she created, and the love she leaves behind.

Shannon is survived by her spouse, Lonny Britt Jr., of the home; children, Jacob Coppin and Jayde of Snyder, Garrett Vails of Pauls Valley, Ashley Jones and Ricky of Davis, Loren Britt of Sulphur, Sabra McDowell and David of Moore; grandchildren, Kaydee-Jo, Raylen, Jaycus, Jayden, Kaysen, Bryndle, Bailer, Briar, Baylin, Braxton, Grady, Milly, Rowan; Great-Granddaughter, Erza; dear friends, Katie Rankin and Misty Casey; mother-in-law, and many other family and friends.

Shannon was preceded in death by her biological father, Michael Smith; father-in-law, Lonny Britt Sr.; and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
