Joe served as a deacon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church where he was a member of the choir as well. He was a dedicated church member that made a point to be at Sunday School, morning worship, and prayer meetings. He found joy in serving the Lord. Arthur Joe also found joy in helping others and working with the youth as a volunteer little league baseball coach. His children’s friends were treated like his own kids. Arthur was very proud of his family. He deeply cherished his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He took his family on many vacations and enjoyed recording these special events. It was important for him to show his kids the country and the beauty of the country. He also wanted his children to realize the different opportunities that existed in other places. Joe’s hobbies included fishing, cooking on the grill, watching all sports, and spending time with his family.

Arthur Joe leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Arthur Smith Jr. (J.J.) and wife Jennifer Smith, Dacona Smith and wife Demenda (Kay) Smith; his daughters, Deidra (Dede) and husband Chris Smith, Miesha (Meme) and husband Thomas Smith III, as well as eleven grandchildren: Autumn Chandler (Martez Chandler), Javon Smith, Wynter Smith, Drezick Smith, Arthur Smith III (Tre) (Stacie Smith), Jayden Sawyer (Chase Sawyer), Deja Smith, Thomas Smith IV, Kaitlyn Smith and Josiah Smith. He also leaves six siblings that he was raised with to cherish his memory, his brothers, Cecil Smith, Oren Smith, and Sammy Smith; his sisters, Calline Rushing (Kirk), Cecilyn Washington (Ricky), and Rosalind Roberts (Roy).

Joe was preceded in death by his wife Zeola (Cookie) Smith; parents, Mildred and Oren Smith; sister, Vanessa; and one grandson, Devion Smith.

Joe will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and child of God. He impacted many people by living a life that served as an example for others. We will be forever grateful for the moments that we were able to share with him. We have comfort in knowing that he may be absent from the body but he is present with the Lord and of course his wife “Cookie”.

Visitation was held on Friday August 7 at DeArman Funeral Home in Wynnewood.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Wynnewood under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Interment followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood.
