Nova Don (Donie) Bumpus passed peacefully away on July 17, 2026, at the age of 93. Donie, a person who gave so much and asked for so little, will always live on because of her incredible love, unconditional gifts, compassion, and competency for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beyond.

She began her life as the youngest of 11 children of Henry DeKay Bausch and Alma Pearl Bausch on a farm in El Dorado Springs, MO.After graduating high school, Donie moved to Kansas City, MO. She worked as a secretary while living with an older sister. There, she met a guy who kept leaving funny cartoon drawings on her desk. As fate would have it, she married the cartoon guy, Roland Reginald (Bud) Bumpus, on June 29th, 1952.

She began this new chapter in her life by becoming a consummate housewife and mother. After frequent moves, Donie and her family moved to a farm outside of Sulphur in January 1969 where they stayed until moving to Oklahoma City, in 2014. It was on the farm, Donie flourished as a true farm homemaker and was known as an outstanding vegetable gardener and as an expert seamstress. She also was indispensable at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sulphur, as she regularly cleaned the church and was even tasked with sewing the Priest’s vestments.

After Bud and Donie retired from farming in August 1979, Donie became a fixture in Sulphur, first by working at Jack’s Foods at 12th and Broadway and then working at Monjay’s IGA on West Broadway.

She and the cartoon guy raised five children from 1953 until her youngest child left home in 1985.

As said, Donie lives on in her children, Michael Bumpus and wife Helen, Anna Heaney and husband Ray, Lisa Bumpus, Pat Bumpus and wife Laurel, and Sandy Bumpus.

She always attended all her children’s activities and carried that tradition on with her grandchildren, Kara Dunleavy with husband Kevin and children Bridget, Rory, and Eamon, Erin Bailey with husband Brian and children Esry and Olive, Katy Bumpus and partner Edward with daughter Maggie, Mica Bumpus and husband Conor Godrey and children Cason and Orin, Tim Wohlgemuth and wife Jessica with children Jakob and Wade, Tanner Mcgehee and partner Erin, Emily Bumpus and partner Porscha, Alex Bumpus, and Chris Bumpus.

Donie’s family will have a private Mass and inurnment in Ardmore on November 28, 2026.
