Gary was born June 9, 1953, in Norman, to Doyle “Blue” and Norma Greene. He grew up in Lindsay, and graduated from Lindsay High School in 1971.

Hard work defined much of Gary’s life. He began his career with Uniroyal Tire Company in Ardmore before finding his calling in the pipeline industry.

He went on to build a long career with Kerr-McGee Pipeline and Plains Pipeline. Gary was a pipeliner through and through, taking great pride in his profession and the people and relationships that came with it.

Away from the pipeline, Gary was happiest around cattle or at the fire station.

A cattleman at heart, Gary considered raising cattle far more than a hobby. It was a way of life and something he genuinely loved. His connection to agriculture extended into the Wynnewood community, particularly through his support of young people involved in FFA and 4-H. Over the years, he helped raise funds for the Wynnewood FFA show barn, served as president of the Wynnewood FFA Boosters, and gave his time and leadership to local livestock shows.

Gary also devoted 26 years to the Wynnewood Fire Department, serving as a volunteer firefighter from 1978 until his retirement from the department in 2004. For more than a quarter century, he answered the call to serve his community. His years as a firefighter, the experiences they brought, and the friendships forged along the way stayed with him long after his active service ended.

Gary was a giver—to his community, family, friends, coworkers, and complete strangers alike. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, yet rarely ask for help himself. He enjoyed telling stories from his years on the pipeline and was always proud to brag about his sons, Chris and Mikael.

Gary is survived by his sons, Chris Greene and wife Lyndi of Choctaw, and Mikael Greene of Newalla; four grandchildren, Bryce, Brady, Austin, and Addy; his great-grandson, Briggs Greene; and his brother and sister-in-law, Grady and Sharon Greene of Lawton. He is also survived by many nephews, cousins, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doyle “Blue” Greene and Norma Greene.

Gary lived his life on his own terms, with an unmistakable work ethic and a strong attachment to the pursuits and people who mattered to him. He will be remembered as a lifelong pipeliner, a proud cattleman, and a retired Wynnewood volunteer firefighter—three roles that, in many ways, tell the story of Gary Greene.

A celebration of Gary’s life will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Greene family homestead, 23509 N. County Road 3280, Wynnewood, Oklahoma.

Family and friends are invited to gather for an informal cookout to share a meal, visit, and remember Gary together. In keeping with the setting and the life Gary lived, the family hopes this will be a relaxed evening filled with stories, memories, and fellowship among the people who knew him.
