Pete Winters

Pete Winters

Life is not about how long you live but how you live the time you have been given.

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Pete went home to meet his Lord and Savior.

He was roping at the Hardy Murphy Arena, when his heart stopped beating.

He would not have wanted to go any other way.

Pete was born on March 18,1954, to Mary Lou Cowin Winters and JS Winters in Wynnewood.

During his young life, he dedicated his life to the Lord and made every effort to serve and share him. Growing up, he lived in various places and graduated from high school in Woodward.

After graduation, he moved to Wynnewood . He was the owner of the Brady Store for a short time.

After living in Wynnewood for a while, he met and married Brenda Mckinzie on September 9,1978.

They were married for 48 years. To their marriage they were blessed with two children Makinzie and Taylor.

He then began his time of working in the quarterhorse industry where he met his life long friend Marty Powers. After leaving the horse industry, he worked for a short time at Halliburton in Davis. From there, his journey began as the custodian at Wynnewood High School. He was given the privilege of being with his own children. He never missed an athletic practice and was always there when they needed him. He enjoyed being with the kids building life long friendships. He was able to share his love for Jesus, joke, have fun and influence lives for a lifetime. One of his favorite memories while working at the school was of Tyler Winters and Mrs. Vanzant if you know you know.

In 1999, he left the school and went to work at the Walmart Distribution Center until his retirement.

Retirement was only the beginning for him; the grandchildren were the light of his life. He became an avid softball and track fan and never missed an event. He was volunteer coach and teacher.

For many years, he was a traveling nanny to California to spend time with the grandkids. He was also an active participant in roping with Tillile and Rance where many memories were made.

Recently, you could find him at little league football games; but he enjoyed nothing more than aggravating them.

Leaving his legacy through his children and grandchildren will be his delight.

Pete leaves here on earth his wife, Brenda; children, Makinzie and Brandon Kinard; grandchildren, M’Ree, Fynlee and Rhett Kinard, Taylor and Gentry Winters, Rance and Tillie; brother and wife, Chris and Mitzi Winters; brother-in-law, Kenny Mckinzie and wife Rhonda, and Mike Mckinzie; and sister-in-law, Pam Caldwell and husband Doug; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, JS and Mary Winters; sister, Cindy Lou Winters; maternal grandparents, Rudy and Gertha Cowin; paternal grandparents, William and Linda Winters; and father- in-law, Everett Mckinzie.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewod.
