Sylviene (Petty) Runyan

Sylviene was born September 27,1929, in Sulphur, to the late Jack and Alice Petty. She died Monday April 30, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 94 years, 7 months and 3 days. Sylviene and Leonard Houston “Pete” Runyan were married on Aug 17, 1947, in Gainesville, TX. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2014.

Sylviene grew up in the Sulphur area. She spent many years at the Sulphur Veterans Center and Oklahoma School for the Deaf working in the kitchen. Over the years, she owned several different cafes but was best known for her R-BBQ(R bar BBQ) Restaurant. In her retirement years, she spent nights working at Wal-Mart unloading trucks. In her spare time, Sylviene enjoyed quilting, tending to her flowers, raising Boston Terriers, and raising her great granddaughters.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Ramer and husband Joe; son, Carl Runyan; five grandchildren, Jody Ramer and wife Seandra, Chad Ramer and wife Kristi, Lyndel Runyan and wife Meredith, Ty Runyan and Taylor Runyan; 12 great-grandchildren, McKenzie Whitsell and husband Dakota, Jadyn McClennahan and husband Layne, Kiley Warren and husband Eli, Kaitlyn White and husband Conner, Kabrie Ramer, Raelyn Runyan, Emory Runyan, Easton, Kirby and Kyrtleigh Snow, and Dillon and Morgan Brown, all of Sulphur; three great-great grandchildren Lucas and Noa McClennnahan and Laikyn Warren; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Runyan of Ada, and Betty Runyan of Sulphur; two brothers-in-law, John David Runyan and wife Sandra of Madill and Loren E. “Buddy” Runyan and wife Ruth of Kingston; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sylviene was preceded in death by her two brothers, Howard Petty and wife Sarah and Howson Petty and wife Joy.

A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at the Midway Hill Baptist Church, in Sulphur, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Drake Cemetery, south of Sulphur.

Serving as pallbearers will be her great granddaughters McKenzie Whitsell, Jadyn McClennahan, Kiley Warren, Kaitlyn White, Kabrie Ramer, Raelyn Runyan and Emory Runyan. Honorary bearers will be Carl Runyan, Ty Runyan, Taylor Runyan, Lyndel Runyan, Jody Ramer and Chad Ramer.
