Ardmore Man’s First Degree Murder Trial Moved To October 18

The first degree murder trial for an Ardmore man accused of killing his ex-daughter-in-law was postponed to October 18, according Murray County Court Clerk’s office.

Alan Chaney, 70, was originally scheduled to go on trial Monday, Aug. 23, but, due to illness, the proceeding was moved to the October date.

Chaney is alleged to have killed his ex-daughter-in-law, Jacyln Chaney, 43, in the Sulphur Wal-Mart parking lot in late April of 2019.

Local law enforcement personnel were called to the Wal-Mart store about 5:45 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019, with a report of a man with a gun, officials said. After arriving, officers found Jacyln Chaney, 43, laying on the ground between her vehicle and a vehicle driven by the alleged shooter.

Officials told the Times-Democrat the victim was at the store to meet her ex-husband, Mitchel Chaney, Ardmore, to pick up their minor children who had spent the weekend with their father.

Law enforcement officials said the elder Chaney drove his white Dodge pickup to the front of the store where the father and two children exited the truck and went inside the store. The elder Chaney then allegedly drove down the aisle to the north end of the parking lot and parked to await the arrival of Jocyln Chaney, who arrived approximately 20 minutes later. After both exited their vehicles and came face to face, Chaney allegedly fired two shots at his ex-daughter-in-law, who fell to the ground, officials allege.

Chaney was taken into custody and transported to the Murray County Jail.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was called to assist local officers and help process the scene where the shooting took place.

Two days after Jocyln Chaney’s death, Alan Chaney was charged with first degree murder and ordered by Associate District Judge Aaron Duck held on a $5 million bond.

The Sulphur Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Murray County Sheriff’s Department, Murray County EMS, Sulphur Fire Department and the Chickasaw National Recreation Area rangers.
