Carriage Club Visits Historical Society

The North Texas Horseless Carriage Club visited the Arbuckle Historical Society Museum on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Twenty-eight club members enjoyed a tour of the Museum and lunch at the Flower Bluff Manor. They were interested to learn that Sulphur was established in 1895 and was located around Pavilion Springs in what later became Platt National Park. Historical Society staff told the history of Sulphur’s locations, the history of the original 1906 Artesian Hotel, and the former City Hall built in 1917 that now houses the Museum. Museum staff members where excited to see restored cars of that era parked in front, giving an authentic atmosphere to the day. Mary Lou Heltzel, Historical Society president, reports that for the first time in many years she was asked if the town’s tap water was laden with the sulfur mineral and the accompanying taste and smell. It was an enjoyable day for all.
