Damaging Storm Pummels County
You did not want to be a tree here on Tuesday, May 15. In mid-afternoon, severe thunderstorms bombarded the area bringing lots of rain, hail and winds gusting upwards of 80 mph. Numerous trees were brought down in the powerful storm that lashed many parts of Murray County. The storm also toppled electric poles, brought down power lines, damaged outbuildings, roofs and other structures, officials said.
The Chickasaw National Recreation Area also experienced some downed trees, according to Superintendent Bill Wright. Much of the tree damage was in the older, heavily wooded Platt Historic District.
