Graveside services, with military honors, for Bill Joe Pope were held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024, at the Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sulphur, with Tony Peek officiating.

Bill was born March 1, 1935, in Sulphur, to the late Leo Levi and Zela Inez (Onstott) Pope. He died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 26 days.

Bill grew up on the family farm north of Sulphur. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, prior to joining the United States Navy. After devoting 14 years of loyal service to our country, Bill received an honorable discharge on April 27th, 1966. After his military service, he returned home and began a career as a truck driver. Much of his truck driving included transporting mobile homes.

Bill was a rather quiet man, until it came to politics. He was often very vocal about who he supported and why. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include his son, James Pope and wife Tama of Roff; grandson, Remington Pope and wife Hannah of Latta; granddaughter, Emerson Pope of Roff; great-granddaughter, Spencer Kove Pope; three sisters, Margaret Miller and husband Fred of Maysville, Dorothy Trett and husband Arnold of Sulphur, and Gloria Brooks of Dougherty; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one sister, Wanda Brown; and two brothers, Jerry Don Pope and John Pope.
