Caren Louise Bates

Gravesie services Caren Louise Bates, 83, of Sulphur, will be held at 1:00 p.m.,Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022 at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Ellis, Kansas,with Rev. John Morley III officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.

Caren was born June 27, 1939 in Ellis, Kansas to Oswald and Elizabeth (Lashell) Deutscher. She passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, in Sulphur, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 24 days.

Caren grew up in Ellis, Kansas where she graduated from high school. She went on to graduate from Kansas State University and had worked as a radiologist technician.

She married Robert Jackson Bates on December 2, 1961 in Ellis, Kansas. He preceded her in death May 25, 1984. She was a member of Sulphur United Methodist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a son, Trent Bates.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses, Todd Bates and Cindy and Tim Bates and Kelly, all of Sulphur; sister, Claudia Schaus and Richard, of Ellis, Kansas; six grandchildren, Tomi-Anne Grisham and Jeff, Grant Bates and Megan, Tanner Bates and Kelsie, Tori Burba and Matt, Haleigh Bates and Jackson Bates and eight great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Tanner Bates, Grant Bates, Jeffrey Grisham, Matt Burba, Jackson Bates, and Stacy Schaus.

Viewing will be Wednesday until noon at Keithley Funeral Home in Ellis, Kansas.
