Funeral services for Curtis Lee Jones will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Davis, with Pastor Willard McCartney, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at the Drake Cemetery, south of Sulphur.

Curtis was born July 11, 1960, in Sulphur. He died Saturday, January 6, 2024, in Davis, surrounded by his family. He and the former Ms. Nancy Jane Ross were married on July 31, 1981, in Davis.

Curtis grew up in Murray County and proudly served in the National Guard. He spent 35 years working in law enforcement. Throughout his career, he worked as a police officer for the City of Davis and Turner Falls Park, as well as spending 18 years working in security for the Chickasaw Nation. He spent the final years of his career working with the Murray County Sheriff’s department.

Curtis was a rather quiet man with a kind soul. His servant’s heart made it easy for his family, friends, and co-workers to love him. Curtis was always calm, yet forceful if needed. His death will truly leave a void in the hearts of many.

In remembering Curtis, co-workers of the Murray County Sheriff’s Department said this, “with his help, the Murray County Sheriff’s Department was able to be more effective in solving crimes. The department has lost a great man and in turn, the citizens of Murray County has lost a great man.” Sheriff Rogers said, “Without his help a deputy would have been pulled off a major investigation for other duties.”

Those left to morn his death include his wife Nancy; two sons, Curtis Lee Jones, Jr. and wife Leslie, and Jerrimiah Jackson Jones and wife Megan; three daughters, Rosa Jane Jones, Birdie Jean Jones and companion Jack, and Carolyn June Barnes; 13 grandchildren, Dayln, Bryln, Jaceln, Shayln, Jerrimiah Jr, Kaden, Asa and Shelby Jones, Brittney Skelton, Lauren Emberton, Lindsey Eddy, and Braydn and Rivurs Canipe; three brothers, JC Jones, Jr., Walter Lytle and wife Sherry, and James Lytle and wife Sherry; two sisters, Ona Newport and Angela Trusty and husband Alan; his very dear friend, James Nichols; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of friends.

Curtis was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Jones; his mother, Mary (Carlile) Hedges; and one daughter, Candy Lynn Jones.
