Danny Earl “Big Danny” Rawls

Danny Earl Rawls better known as “Big Danny” was born December 1, 1961, in Lawton, to the late Ray Harold and Mary Earline (Potter) Rawls. He died Friday, Nov. 5, in Davis, at the age of 59. Danny and the former Ms. Lorraine Nunley were married on April 30, 1981, in Sulphur. From this marriage were born four children, Danny Wayne, Justin, Heather, and Kasey.

Danny grew up in Davis, moving here in the second grade. At the age of 17, he began working in the oil field. Throughout his 40+ years in that industry, Danny worked in numerous capacities including, drilling, tool pushing and as a deckhand.

In addition to his years in the oil field, Danny raised fighting chickens. This was something that he greatly enjoyed. Prior to failing health, he also enjoyed fishing and working on his hot rod cars.

Although he was known for pestering his family, Danny had an unwavering love for each of them, especially his grandkids. He enjoyed spending time with them and supporting them in all their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Lorraine; two sons, Danny Wayne Rawls and wife, Mary Kay, of Davis, and Justin Rawls and wife, Krystal, of Hennepin; two daughters, Heather Hunter and Kasey McCurry and husband, Rod, of Davis; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Gary Rawls and Karl Rawls.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by one sister, Lanell (Rawls) Counts; one brother, Tony Rawls; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Pat Nunley; and one brother-in-law, Gary Nunley.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the First Baptist Church of Davis, with Pastor Johnny Tonihka officiating. Interment followed at the Green Hill Cemetery in Davis.
