Funeral services for Gary Lee Stout were held 2:00 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur, with Pastor Dick Terry officiating. Interment followed at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.

Gary was born January 5, 1949, in Sulphur, to the late Joseph Pershing “Perk” and Ella Mae (West) Stout. He died Thursday, Aug. 4, 2022, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 29 days. Gary and the former Ms. Doris Jo Garrison were united in marriage on May 17, 1968, in Mill Creek. She preceded him in death on October 15, 2021.

Gary grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School, Class of 1968. After high school, Gary joined the Army National Guard and devoted 16 years of service to our country. In October of 1973, Gary began working for the Uniroyal Tire Plant in Ardmore, which later became known as Michelin, retiring in January of 2004.

Gary was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was continually active in the lives of each of his children and grandchildren. Spending time with his family brought him the most enjoyment of his life. While his children were in school, Gary worked for the local television station, Channel 7, as a sports commentator, covering area high school sporting events. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, playing golf, camping, watching television, and of course, lovingly pestering his grandchildren.

Survivors include his son, Doug Stout and wife, Lisa of Sulphur; daughter, Jarie Sharp and husband, JD of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Britney Stout and boyfriend, Kyle, Taryn Kemper and husband, Seth, Jakub Sharp, Jalie Sharp and Tyler Stout; three great-grandchildren, Hayden “Lil’ Peanut” Ritter, Reid Kemper, and Mason Kemper; one sister, Diane Trussell and husband, Joe of Madill; one brother, Michael Stout, of Sulphur; brother-in-law, Joe Garrison of Paoli; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Pat Garrison.

Serving as pallbearers were Mark Barefoot, Jason Borders, Dawell Blevins, Kendall Truett, Ronald Trett, David Norton, and Brad Davis. Honorary bearers were Steve Trussell, Shawn Garrison, Bobby Trussell, Zach Stout, Kyle Ritter, and Seth Kemper.
