Graveside services for Jimmy Edward Burk, 70, of Sulphur, were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 20, at Oaklawn Cemetery officiated by Rev David George. Interment followed under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.

Born December 1, 1951 in Sulphur, to Marvin Edward and Coy Marie (Vickery) Burk, he passed away in Sulphur on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 14 days.

Jim lived his entire life in Sulphur. An industrious man from a young age, he began his working life delivering newspapers on a motorcycle as soon as he was old enough, then working in a grocery store and liquor store to put himself through school. Jim attended Cameron Elementary School from grade 1 – 6, graduating from Sulphur High School in 1970.

After high school, he attended East Central University, in Ada, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

After graduating college, he was employed at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf and then Halliburton. In 1986, he became the owner of Farmers Insurance in Sulphur and served the community for many years as an insurance agent.

He loved the community in which he grew up, and served as a volunteer firefighter, city council, and mayor.

He also served for a time on the boards of Murray County EMS, People’s Electric Cooperative, and was a real estate appraiser.

Jim loved to play golf and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Matthew.

He will be remembered by his lifelong friends, and those he met along the way, as a fair, honest and good friend who would do anything for those he cared about.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, many aunts, uncles,and cousins.

He is survived by a son, Matthew Edward Burk; daughter, Michelle Hill and grandchildren, Matthew and Jaci.
