Jimmy Nye
Jimmy Nye, 82, of Sulphur, passed away on January 1, 2023. Jimmy was born on May 30, 1940, to George Wit and Lela Mae Nye in Sulphur.
After attending Sulphur High School, Jim went on to explore the country he loved so much. He spent time working in the mines of Colorado having adventures that he remembered fondly for the rest of his life. After returning to Sulphur, Jimmy joined the Army where he earned a presidential commendation for rescuing a young German girl from a fire.
After Jimmy completed his service in the Army, he returned to Sulphur where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Bumpass. Jimmy and Carolyn were married on February 22, 1963 and spent the rest of their lives loving and caring for one another.
After marrying Jimmy went to work for OG&E in Sulphur, but soon decided to follow his brothers to California where he felt he could make a better living. Jimmy was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. While in California, Jimmy worked as a semi-truck driver for the Teamsters union for thirteen years.
After returning to Sulphur, Jimmy accepted a position as a police officer for the Sulphur Police Department, a job he truly loved. While on the police force, Jimmy formed many friendships that were important to him until the day that he died. After leaving the police force, Jimmy was the manager of Carpenter Egg and then he went on to manage Mahard Egg’s production plant in Sulphur and was a member of the Oklahoma Egg Council. Jimmy was an integral part of creating the ad campaign for the Incredible Edible Egg.
After working in management for years, Jimmy decided to open Nye’s Auto Sales as cars had been a passion of his throughout life. He loved the car business and continued to wholesale cars for friends and family until the end of his life.
Jimmy was a proud member of the Kiwanis serving as Kiwanis President. He also loved his church, Memorial Freewill Baptist Church in Sulphur where he served as a deacon. Throughout his life, Jimmy was an adventurer and loved taking four-wheeling trips with his friends and family to Colorado and Mena, Arkansas. Jimmy enjoyed the many trips that he and Carolyn took across this country that he loved so much.
After retirement Jimmy enjoyed his daily coffee with a great group of friends who were there to support him in any way that he needed. Jimmy always said to have a friend you have to be one and as a result he had an abundance of great friendship that he enjoyed until the end of his life. Anyone who knew Jimmy knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
Jimmy was predeceased by his parents, George and Lela Nye; brothers, Cleon Nye, Ray Nye, and Kenneth Nye; sisters, Ruby Day, and Coleen Tidwell, and a beloved nephew, Jeff Nye.
He is survived by wife, Carolyn of Sulphur; daughters, Sherrie Nye, Sulphur, Karen Hawks and husband, Jeff Yukon, Tricia Brown and husband, Todd of Mill Creek; grandchildren, Kristin Borromeo and husband, Jeremy, Kaylee Hawks Markaby and husband, Aelx, Jacalyn Hawks and husband, Alex, Jessicca Hawks, Joesie Brown and fiancé, Trent Conatser, and Tucker Brown and fiancé, Helen Salge; great grandchildren, Julian, Kara, and Kaylee Borromoe, Joseph Farmer, Heidi Brown, Isaac Lopez and Rosie Hawks Markaby. Jimmy was also survived by a host of brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews whom he adored.
Jimmy will be missed by many and will forever be remembered as a kind and loving soul.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 5 at Memorial Free Will Baptist Church in Sulphur with Rev. Jacob Ford officiating. Interment was at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
