Nickolas James Schwake

Nickolas James Schwake

Nickolas James Schwake was born December 26, 1944 in Sulphur, and passed from this life on July 26, 2022.

He grew up just a few blocks from Platt National Park where he acquired his life-long love of the outdoors. After graduation from Sulphur High in 1963, he attended OU where he began his studies in Engineering but changed his major to Sociology. It was while he was a student there that he met his future wife, Teresa. Together they had two sons.

Nick’s career included several electronics-related jobs, including manager of Harmon Cable for many years. He was a Sulphur City Council member for one term.

Nick had many interests. He loved reading science fiction, sailing, hiking, camping, fishing, and woodworking. His musical tastes included classical, blue grass, jazz and many other genres. Many people did not know that he could play the guitar and the concertina. He and Teresa spent many long hours playing Minecraft on the Xbox.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marie Schwake; his brother, Christopher; and his cousins, David, Jon, and cousin by marriage, Shelly.

Nick is survived by his wife of more than 50 years; sons, Stephen, and Thomas; his daughter-in-law, Dionne; his brother, Richard; and cousins, Mary, Charlie, and Nancy. He is also survived by his “grand-cousins,” Jon and Madison; and his faithful dog, Daisy.

A memorial service will be planned at a later date.
