Patsy Ann Malloy

Patsy Ann Malloy

Patsy Ann Malloy, of Sulphur, was born on August 6, 1934 in Sulphur to Amos and Margaret (Fuqua) Dunn. She passed away on Friday, Dec. 29, 2023 in Ada at the age of 89 years, four months and 23 days.

Patsy had lived in Sulphur most of her life, attending Sulphur schools where she was the number one salesperson in the FFA magazine sales fund-raiser the last three years. She was also a member of the Twirler’s Club. Patsy also went on to become a water safety instructor with the Red Cross. As a young girl, Patsy sang in the church choir which was directed by her father.

After graduation, Patsy attended East Central State College for one session.

She and Lowell Malloy were married on September 3, 1952 in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Sulphur.

Patsy and Lowell, while working at jobs, went back to East Central where they obtained their BA and Masters Degrees.

The young couple then took teaching jobs in Colorado and lived there for several years before returning to the town and church she loved. Patsy later joined the Sulphur Public Schools.

Patsy is remembered fondly by many of the children she taught in kindergarten. She was a little bit of a rule breaker, teaching her beloved children to pray before lunch and sing Christian songs, despite new laws that were forbidding that in schools.

Patsy was also talented artist, and one of her paintings of the original First Baptist Church building now hangs in the halls of Crossway First Baptist Church. Patsy was recently recognized as one of the longest-living members of the church. While out-living most of her many friends, she will be deeply missed by the loved ones she left behind.

Patsy is survived by her husband of 71 years, Lowell Malloy; her son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Letha Malloy; granddaughters, Dyana and Jessica Malloy; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Mary Dunn; and a niece, Nicole and family.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 5, 2024 at the Crossway Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home.
