Reba Gene (Putman) Kennedy

Reba Gene (Putman) Kennedy

Reba Gene Kennedy was born May 3, 1946, in Springer, to the late Hershel and Maudie (Christian) Putman. She passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 77. Reba and Carter “Junior” Kennedy were married on January 4, 1965, in Springer. He preceded her in death on December 1, 2008.

Reba grew up in Springer. After she and Junior married, they made their home in Wilson, prior to residing in Gene Autry. Later, she and Junior built a home on her family’s land in the “mountains,” as they so lovingly called it, near Springer. Reba spent her life in devotion to her beloved family. She was known for hosting family gatherings, which always included her fried pies. Making fried pies, which everyone loved, was a hobby that she delighted in. Throughout her years, it is easy to say Reba made thousands of fried pies.

Reba was a member of the Springer Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as the “church cleaning lady” for many years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed camping and fishing, and playing cards with family and friends. In earlier years, she and Junior spent many weeks each summer camping and fishing on Lake Texoma and Lake Murray. Their time at the lake would always include their whole family. After Junior retired, he and Reba spent most of their time a Lebanon on Lake Texoma, camping with family and friends. They acted as camp hosts and were very passionate about lake living.

Survivors include three daughters, June Hair and husband Jason of Mill Creek, Nellie Knuckles of Springer, and Aretha South and husband Jerry of Sulphur; seven grandchildren, Chantry Hair, Matt Hair, Dominque Carey, Jessica Carey, Josh South, Justin South and wife Gloria, and Joseph South; six great-grandchildren; five siblings, Leroy Putman, Betty Grover, Velma Potts, Debbie Uhl, and David Putman; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Reba was preceded in death by granddaughter, Charlotte Hair; and two siblings, Dale Putman and Shirley Walker.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel, in Davis, with Brother Steve Robinson officiating. The interment will be held at the Woodford Cemetery.
