Sheila was born January 31, 1947, in Ada, to the late Richard and Velma (Westrope) Green. She received eternal rest on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, in Sulphur, following a lengthy battle with dementia. She and Steve Brown were married on December 21, 1990. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2011.

Sheila grew up in Sulphur, graduating from Sulphur High School, Class of 1965. Following high school, she attended East Central University, majoring in Education. Upon graduating from ECU, Sheila began her teaching career in Latta. Throughout her years in education, she taught English, Art and Humanities at several schools, including Calvin, Springer, Davis, Pauls Valley, and Sulphur. Sheila was truly gifted with the ability to teach students. She was not only a teacher but also a friend to her students. She made her classes fun and interesting. Sheila quickly became the “favorite teacher” of many of her students and maintained friendships with students long after graduating.

After retiring, she spent much of her time caring for and spoiling her beloved grandchildren. Prior to failing health, Sheila was a very active member of the Crossway First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School classes for many years, as well as singing in the church choir. When her kids were younger, she was involved with the church youth group, OASIS.

Sheila is survived by one daughter, Lori Roy and husband, Tim of Sulphur; one son, David Whitfield of Sulphur; five grandchildren, Russell Pena, Katy Whitfield, Raegan Whitfield, Garett Whitfield, and Taby Roy; and one sister, Debbie Russell and husband, Bobby of Pauls Valley.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sheila was preceded in death by one son, Todd Whitfield, on December 30, 2022; as well as husband Buck Whitfield.
