STILLWATER, Okla. – It’s happening at big box chain stores and locally owned markets. After the rush of panic buying a year ago, a few empty shelves still haunt grocery stores, and food costs continue to climb.
COVID-19 is not the first worldwide coronavirus pandemic in this century. In 2002, a novel coronavirus appeared and was determined to cause severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). It led to an outbreak that infected 8,422 people, killing 916. It spread to several countries, mostly in Asia, but there also were cases in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Parker Memorial Library in Sulphur has been selected as one of the Oklahoma Partnership for School Readiness’ (OPSR) Public Library Family Engagement Project grantees. Libraries selected to participate in this project will expand on existing programs originally funded through the Preschool Development Grant Birth through Five, also known as “OKFutures.” Parker Memorial Library’s goal through the OPSR renewal grant is to promote early literacy skills in infants, toddlers, and children under age 5 that have not entered Kindergarten. This program will begin Wednesday, September 1 at the Parker Memorial Library, 500 West Broadway in Sulphur.
