Alvin Lewis Gaines

Funeral services for Alvin Lewis Gaines were held Wednesday, May 31, 2017 at the Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur, with the Rev. Gene Wilson officiating. Interment was held at the Salem Presbyterian Cemetery, north of Sulphur, under the direction of Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur. Alvin was born November 24, 1949 in Lawton to the late Lewis and Zona Gaines. He died Friday, May 26, in Weleetka, at the age of 67 years. Alvin was raised in the Tulsa area. Following his 1968 high school graduation, Alvin attended Haskell Junior College and later Western University in St. Joseph Missouri on a football scholarship. Throughout his adult life, he worked as a commercial offset printer. Along with his career in printing, Alvin had a passion for music. He and his family traveled extensively with their gospel quartet. Later, he and his brother Mel, with the encouragement of his parents, formed the “Friendly Four Quartet” and spent several years traveling together. Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Kristine Gaines; brother, Melvin Gaines and wife Patricia; sister, Adell Hopper and husband, Mike and several nieces and nephews.
