David Roy Plasters

Memorial services for David Roy Plasters, of Sulphur, will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church of Sulphur Disciples of Christ, 403 West Muskogee, Sulphur, with Rev. Tim Kowalski officiating.

He passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 28 days.

He was born on April 9, 1941 in Oklahoma City to William and Lelia Margaret (Blagg) Plasters.

He married Carolyn Sue (Kinsey) Plasters in Oklahoma City in 1960.

David grew up in Oklahoma City and graduated from Capitol Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from August 1959 until August 1963. He worked as a computer operator in the banking business.

He was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club of Albuquerque and was active for more than 30 years, servicing as president, vice-president and secretary/treasurer for many years.

He especially liked working with children in the many projects that the Optimist serve. He was the kite doctor in the annual kite contest, fixing anything from a broken string to completely making the kite again. He started a project of helping schools with much needed school supplies. This began with one school and when he moved they were helping five schools.

He and his wife of 58 years moved to Sulphur in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Plasters, of Sulphur; daughter and son-in-law, Sonja Knight and Vince, of Sulphur; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn Plasters and Samantha, of Oklahoma City; brother and sister-in-law, Earl “Jerb” Sherrod and Dorothy, of Tuttle; four granddaughters, Rachelle Hodgson, Taylor Knight, Amber Plasters and Sarah Plasters; two great grandchildren, Makayla Benjamin and Caden Benjamin and many nieces and nephews.
