Services Lowanda Jo Caldwell, 90, of Sulphur, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, at the Chapel of Crossway Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Born December 4, 1927 in Sulphur, to Joseph Michael and Allie Gertrude (Arms) Binderim, she passed away Saturday, March 10 in Sulphur. She grew up on Buckhorn Creek, south of Sulphur, where as a young girl, she helped on her family’s produce farm. She attended Buckhorn School and graduated from Sulphur High School in 1946. She married Vaughn “Von” Ray Caldwell in Sulphur on January 14, 1947. She worked for Fred Freeman Auction Co. for eight years and at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf for 16 years, where she retired as Youth Guidance Specialist. She was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, WMU and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Oaklawn Home Extension Club for over 50 years. Jo was a very talented writer and artist and enjoyed recording all the family events and history. She loved to cook, embroidery, crochet and was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her children, and sewing projects for the church and for the club county fairs. She enjoyed going to the Bluegrass festivals and traveling with Von and she loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Von; sister, Janie Jones and her husband Eldon Jones; and a daughter-in-law, Claudette “Cluck” Caldwell. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Kathy Wilkins and C.R., of Sulphur and Jolene Mitchell and Bobby, of Geneva, Ill.; a son and his wife, Russell Caldwell and Laurie, of Cumby, Texas; one brother and wife Dwain Binderim and Elsie, of Sulphur; eight grandchildren, Rickey and wife Tammy, of Cumby,Texas, Kendra and husband John Hood of Cumby,Texas, Travis Wilkins of Honolulu, Hawaii, Ty Wilkins and wife Charlotte, of Sulphur, Shannon Mitchell of St. Louis, Mo., Brooke Darland and husband Steve, of Queen Creek, Ariz., Ares Mitchell of Aurora, Ill., Harley Cook, of Sulphur; six great grandchildren, Chase and Erin Vaughan, of Cumby, Texas, Slade Hood, of Cumby, Texas, Connor, Sadie and Ember Darland, of Queen Creek, Ariz and many nieces an nephews.
