Burial will be at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home. Born July 30, 1920 in Iona, Oklahoma to Edgar E. and Mazel (Frizzell) Ward, she passed away Monday, July 9, 2017 in Sulphur. She grew up in the Iona-Wynnewood area and graduated from Davis High School in 1939, where she earned the award of Valedictorian of her class. She moved to Sulphur with her family in the early 1940s. After moving to Sulphur, she met Winnfred Langston, they were married on March 9, 1941. They were married for 56 years, when Winn died on February 9, 1997. Her life took her to many places in the U.S. and abroad, but Sulphur remained home and the place she visited frequently. Retha, Winn and Rex moved to Graham, Wa. in 1972. There she met Clarice Taylor, her dearest friend of over 40 years whom she regarded as a sister and loved dearly. She returned to Sulphur on a permanent basis in 2002, where she was surrounded by a loving family and many close friends in the years since. Retha was a proud member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she, her sister Bonnie Davis George and niece Jan Lee worshipped together for many years. She was an excellent cook, noted for her exceptional apple pies and masterful chocolate chip cookies (a recipe she passed on to her only granddaughter). She enjoyed very much cooking for family and friends and took great pleasure seeing those she cooked for enjoy her many specialties. Retha was also known for her knitting. She spent many hours knitting countless afghans and other treasures for family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Bonnie Davis George and a nephew, Cecil Davis.
